Abraham Part 1

ABRAHAM

A study

Part 1

Turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God. (1Thess.1: 9)

God created man in His own image and likeness to be in love and subjection to Him, and to subdue the earth and have dominion over it. (Gen.1: 26-28) But as soon as man fell in sin (Gen.3) the glory of God departed from man. (Rom.3: 23)

After about 2000 years the God of glory appeared to one man Abraham. (Acts.7: 2,3) God wanted to make him a channel through which the whole of mankind will be blessed and be brought back into the original purpose for which man was created. At that time Abraham and his family, dwelt beyond the River and they served other gods. And God took Abraham from beyond the River (Josh.24: 3,4) out of Ur of the Chaldeans in Mesopotamia to go and posses the land of Canaan and also to inherit the 7-fold blessings of Gen.12: 1-3.

Abraham could inherit the blessings because of his FAITH and PATIENCE.

Abraham’s FAITH – Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom. 10: 17) Only when one hears and obeys the Word of God we can say that he has FAITH. (James2: 20) Abraham obeyed God and left his country though he did not know where he was going. (Heb.11: 8) Then he entered the land of Canaan in obedience to His commandment though he was not given place to even set his foot on or any seed to inherit the land after him. (Acts7: 5)

Abraham’s PATIENCE – He kept obeying God even though he was not given a seed until his age of 100. (Rom.4: 19-21) After receiving the seed he was ready to even sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Then he went on obeying God till his death though the land was not given to him in possession. (Heb.11: 9,10) Let us have the faith of Abraham, the faith which was seen through his perfect obedience to God’s word. (1Sam.15: 22) And let us have the patience, which can be demonstrated only at times of trials. (James 1: 2-3) Then we can also inherit all that He has promised to His people. After Abraham entered the land of Canaan three peculiar things were always found in his life.

1) Tent

2) Altar and

3) Mountain top.

1) Tent – Abraham always lived in tents though he was a very rich man. This shows that he was never in friendship to this world. He lived as a stranger in this world and always longed to be with God. We must also love our Lord Jesus Christ more than anything else and always desire to be with Him because He laid down His life to save unworthy and unprofitable people like us. (Phil.3: 20,21, 2Tim.4: 8)

2) Altar – Abraham always built an altar wherever he lived. This showed his consecration. His life was totally consecrated to God. Let us also commit our life in the hands of our Lord and think, speak and do only those things, which are acceptable to Him. (Rom.12: 1,2, 1Cor.10: 31, Col.3: 23,24)

3) Mountaintop – Abraham always lived in mountaintops. He was never found living in the plains. He was detached from this earth and was attached to heaven. We must also set our affection on things, which are above and eternal. (Col.3: 1-3, 1John2: 15-17, James 4: 4, 2Cor.4: 17,18, Rom.8: 17,18)
