Three Dispensations

Three Dispensations

The Greek words “aion” means AGE and “genea” means GENERATIONS and “oikonomia” means DISPENSATION or STEWARDSHIP. The indiscriminate manner in which these words have been translated and understood has given rise to many wrong teachings of the Word of God. Dispensation or stewardship does not refer to a period of time, rather it refers to the created and appointed channel (a manager or steward) through which God’s authority and His blessings are dispensed.

This present age of 6000 years is divided into three dispensations
of 2000 years each.

Firstly, in the beginning of this age, God created Adam and though him and his descendants, wanted to dispense His power and authority and His blessings over the whole earth. So God CREATED man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it and have DOMINION over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth (Gen.1:27, 28). But man fell in sin and God’s purpose for creating man could not be realized immediately. For the first 2000 years, the whole of mankind was viewed as one unit referred to later on as the Gentiles.

Then the God of glory appeared to one man Abraham and said, Get thee out of thy country… unto a land that I will show thee… and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed (Acts 7:2, 3; Gen.12:1-3; 22:16-18). Subsequently, in 2000BC, God brought into existence the nation of the Jews, Israel by a special creative act through Abraham’s grandson Jacob and his descendants. Thus says the Lord who CREATED thee, O Jacob, and He who formed thee, O Israel, Fear not for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art Mine. I have CREATED him for My glory (Isa.43:1, 7). Through this nation of the Jews, God gave man the Redeemer, and also the written Word of God, revealing His plans and purposes (Rom.9:4, 5). Presently God has set them aside because of their rebellion and unbelief, seen throughout the Old Testament, Gospel and Acts. But they will repent and turn to the Lord during the 7-year tribulation period. And, as prophesied by all the prophets, all the promises to the Jews will be realized during the Messianic Era. At that time the Lord Jesus Christ will sit on David’s throne in Jerusalem and rule over the whole earth (Luke 1:32, 33).

This is the third and final dispensation of this age. The church is a special CREATION of God, the new creation in Christ (Eph.2:10). Unlike the first two creations, this new creation cannot be passed on through natural birth (John 1:12, 13). It is strictly a spiritual birth which must be experienced on an individual basis through believing on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30, 31; John 3:16; 2Cor.5:17). All those who are saved by grace through faith are added to the church which is the body of Christ. Today, God is exercising His authority and showering His blessings over all mankind, through the church. In this dispensation the Holy Spirit has come to prepare the members of the church, to become joint-heirs with Christ in the Kingdom of the Heavens. All the overcomers in the church will form the bride of Christ, and will rule with Him from the New Jerusalem over the earth in the coming age of 1000 years.

Time Plan

This is the manner in which Scripture naturally divides itself
and following these natural divisions is really the best way to correctly understand
the overall dispensational picture of this age
